SMITE

Hello Otakus & Gamers Alike! Today I would like to introduce a game SMITE. SMITE is a third person multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Hi-Rez Studios for Microsoft Windows. In Smite, Players take part on being mythological gods in arena combat with other player controlled gods and minions.

Players are formed into two teams, with five players to each team. All players begin at opposing sides of a map in the Spawning Pool, near the Minotaur. The game is won by destroying the enemies' Minotaur. However, before a team can attack the Minotaur they must first get through the 'lanes'. There are three continuous 'lanes' running from one side of the map to the other. Each lane is defended by a 'Phoenix' which is accompanied by a series of extra defensive towers, phoenixes and towers deal a large amount of damage to any enemies that come too close. The players are also accompanied by 'creeps', these creeps spawn at the Phoenixes every thirty seconds and run along their lane until they meet opposition and attack immediately. Creeps will not only attack players and other creeps but towers, Phoenixes and the Minotaur. Because of this players will wait until the creeps attack the defensive positions and then attack the positions themselves. By doing this the creeps will take all the damage and the player can attack almost risk free, until the creeps die because the tower will then start attacking them. If a game is going badly for a certain team then they can decide to surrender, though this requires most of the team to agree before the team surrenders.

Players have to choose a God to play, this is akin to champions in League of Legends or heroes in Dota 2. Currently there are over twenty gods to choose from six different mythology or religions, Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, Hindu, Roman and Norse mythology, each god can only be chosen once and the amount of gods from a mythology does not matter, for example, an entire team can have five gods from Egyptian mythology.[ The player controls their god in a third person perspective, this is a new concept in multiplayer online battle arena (moba) games, up until now most moba games have the player control their character from a top-down perspective. Each god have four spells varying from area of effect damage, crowd control and many more. These spells are acquired and upgraded by gaining experience and levelling up, experience is gained by being in range of creeps when they are killed, taking down towers or phoenixes and killing enemy players. The maximum level is twenty and like with most level progressions, the required amount of skill needed to level also increases. Gold is collected via two ways, periodic income and combat experience, this gold can be spent on buying items that increase power, defence and some items give passive effects, along with items to equip to the god the player can buy potions, wards and abilities.

Another area that takes up most of the map is the 'jungle', in the jungle there are a series of neutral monsters that provide buffs. These neutral monsters spawn on equal opposite sides of the map for each time. There are five buffs on offer that only affect a single god and these are cooldown, damage, mana, protection and speed. There are two other neutral monsters, fire giant and gold fury lair, unlike the other neutral monsters there is only one spawn instead of two for these monsters.
